Set Design for Stop Motion Animation
Cantina
Exterior Cantina walls were made with illustration board. Walls were built like theatrical flats. Texture was added with spackle to resemble the look you get from the hand-troweled layers of mortar on Mexico walls. I wanted the paint to be uneven and weathered. Stone entry way is hammered foam board.
Academy of Art Spring Show 2020 1st place winner : Stop Motion Set
My two submissions got first place. Train Station was my original design and second submission was inspired by the Happy Homes in Nintendo's Animal Crossing.
Train Station constructed with illustration board and wood. Over 1,000 roof shingles were cut from chip board and placed individually. Set was broken up into 3 large pieces (main body, front section, and roof) that would come together seamlessly but allowed for easy transportation on public transit. All details were made with various sizes of wood and popsicle sticks. Windows were made from plastic sheets, tape details and nail polish to give textured frosty look. Set stage is cat litter with a glue wash to set it in place. Train lights were installed.
Home has a wood structure with illustration board, chip board roof and paper details.
Night at the Circus. Horror themed original design. Entry way was made out of wood cut on scroll saw and painted/weathered. Stripped fence was cut and sewn in the alternative color design. Lights are LED fairy lights.
